Student Stories
Cedria![]() When Cedria enrolled at Worthington High School, she was focused on getting caught up and returning to her original high school. A couple of months in, her plans changed. Cedria knew she had found the right school for her. “I could have switched back to [my previous high school], but I decided to stay because Worthington helped me," she says. "Why not graduate here? Why not continue to be a warrior?” No longer focused only on the recovering the credits she was missing in high school, Cedria is now providing the support and mentorship to others she says was missing in her life. “I want to work with kids," she explains. "I’m looking at early childhood education or becoming a therapist. Many young females don’t have an ally. I want them to be able to come to me. That’s something I wish that I had.”
Not waiting until graduation to start on that path, Cedria helped organize a support group that she describes as “girls being there for each other; girls with similar stories, struggles with insecurity, who can talk about friendship, self-esteem, school, life. Girls sharing advice and helping each other.”
As Cedria prepares for her future, she reflects fondly on her journey at Worthington. “At Orientation, I was thinking: ‘I’m not going to be able to do this.’ But I’ve changed," she says. "The people here are different. They influence me to better myself. I needed that push. I came from nothing to something in a matter of months." Her advice to others wondering if they can succeed in high school? "If I can do it, you can do it.”
